Projection-based model reduction of evolutionary problems: structure preservation and adaptive time stepping
This talk addresses recent developments of projection-based model reduction for parametric evolutionary problems with emphasis on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) problems. We discuss the impact of time integration and adaptation, and the relation with structure preservation. We illustrate our findings through two distinct classes of problems: fluid structure interaction in the laminar regime, and compressible flows at low/moderate Mach number. Numerical results clearly show that the preservation of the divergence-free constraint for incompressible flows enhances the long-time stability of reduced-order models, and model reduction alleviates the underlying stiffness of the high-fidelity model, and ultimately enables significantly larger time steps.
