For the first time, ARIA (Association francophone de Recherche d’Information et Applications) and ATALA (Association pour le Traitement Automatique des Langues) jointly organize their main conferences in order to bring together in a sole place the research communities of Information Retrieval and Natural Language Processing.
Organized by IRISA (UMR 6074) and Rennes Bretagne-Atlantique Inria research centre, this joint event will take place in Rennes from Monday 15 to Friday, May 18, 2018. It will gather:
- the 15th French Conference on Information Retrieval and Applications (Conférence en Recherche d’Information et Applications – CORIA);
- the 25th French Conference on Natural Language Processing (Traitement Automatique des Langues Naturelles – TALN);
- A Student Research Meeting (RJC) common to both communities, corresponding to the 13th Student Research Meeting on Information Retrieval (Rencontre des Jeunes Chercheurs en Recherche d’Information – RJCRI) and to the 20th Student Research Meeting on Natural Language Processing (Rencontre des Étudiants Chercheurs en Informatique pour le Traitement Automatique des Langues – RECITAL);
- the 5th Innovation Fair in Natural Language and Information Processing (salon de l’innovation en technologies du langage et de l’information – SITAL)
- tutorials and workshops
CALL FOR PAPERS – TALN
The submitted papers should address topics related to NLP, including, but not limited to:
- Phonetics, phonology, morphology, part-of-speech tagging
- Syntax, grammars, parsing, chunking
- Semantics, pragmatics, discourse,
- Lexical and distributional semantics,
- Linguistic and psycholinguistic aspects of NLP,
- Language resources for NLP,
- Evaluation methods for NLP,
- NLP applications (information retrieval and extraction, question-answering, automatic translation, generation, summarization, dialogue, sentiment analysis, etc.),
- NLP and multi-modality (speech, vision, etc.),
- NLP and multilingualism,
- NLP for the Web and social networks,
- NLP and low-resourced languages,
- NLP and sign language,
- NLP and ethics
- NLP and corpus linguistics

Types of submissions
For this edition of TALN, the Steering Committee of the conference has decided to propose new modalities for the submissions:
A sole format of papers: short papers (6 pages of content plus an unlimited number of pages for references).
TALN welcomes two types of communications:
- papers presenting original research work
- position statements presenting a point of view on the state of NLP
research
When submitting their paper, authors will be asked to indicate whether, in the event of a request from the program committee, they will be prepared (or not) to transform it (in accordance with the calendar) into a long article (12 pages + unlimited number of pages for references).
Always respecting the format “short paper”, possibility of submitting translations in French of articles being submitted to an international conference. In this case, a mention “translation” should be added when submitting the article.

Selection criteria
Each submission will be reviewed by three specialists of the domain. The following criteria apply:
- – appropriateness to the conference topics,
- substance and originality of the contribution,
- correctness of the technical and scientific content,
- critical discussion of the results, in particular with respect to the
state of the art, - positioning of the work in the context of international research,
- organization and clarity of presentation.
Pour les prises de position, seront privilégiées :
- la largeur de vue et la prise en compte de l’état de l’art,
- l’originalité et l’impact du point de vue présenté.
For position statements, the following qualities are emphasized: scope of the presentation and consideration of the state of the art, originality and impact of the presented point of view.
A committee composed of members of the TAL (Traitement Automatique des Langues) Journal Editorial Board and of the TALN Program Committee will select, among the accepted papers, one paper (TALN Award) which will be recommended for publication (as an extended paper) in the TAL journal. Additional selections may also be offered to authors to publish their work in other journals of the field (Document Numérique, RIDoWS).

Notification: March 23, 2018
Camera-ready paper due: April 19, 2018 (7 pages of content plus an unlimited number of pages for references, or 12 pages plus an unlimited number of pages for references for accepted submissions transformed into long papers).
