We are hosted by the Inria Centre at the University Grenoble Alpes<\/a><\/strong> and the MIAI AI Cluster<\/a><\/strong>, both associated with Universit\u00e9 Grenoble Alpes<\/a><\/strong>, and embedded in one of the most dynamic AI research ecosystems in France and in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Our mission is to establish and sustain an internationally leading research environment in multimodal learning<\/strong> \u2014 with computer vision and machine learning at its core, and extending to audio and speech processing, natural language understanding, and geospatial data analysis, with applications to robotics, healthcare, remote sensing, and 3D vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We aim to become a centre of excellence within the ELLIS network and in Europe more broadly, recognised for transformative contributions in multimodal AI that reshape how machines perceive, reason, and act in complex real-world settings. Through synergy with Universit\u00e9 Grenoble Alpes, Inria, and the MIAI AI Cluster, we act as a nexus where fundamental scientific inquiry, education, and application coalesce \u2014 ensuring that European AI leadership is built upon both scientific depth and societal relevance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We develop core algorithms and theory in machine learning, computer vision, and representation learning \u2014 addressing robustness, interpretability, and uncertainty.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n A defining strength of the Unit is our focus on learning from and across multiple modalities: vision, 3D, audio, speech, language, and geospatial data.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n We address real-world challenges in robotics, healthcare, environmental monitoring, and remote sensing \u2014 bridging fundamental research with applications that matter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n The European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS)<\/a><\/strong> is a pan-European AI research network connecting top researchers across Europe.
