Inria Programs
Associate Teams
Associate Teams are an essential element of Inria’s international policy. This program of the International Relations Department is one of the main Inria tools for supporting bilateral scientific collaborations and promoting and strengthening its strategic partnerships abroad.
An Associate Team is a joint research project created between an Inria project-team and a research team from abroad. The two partners jointly define a scientific objective with a clear added value for each of them, a research plan and a program for bilateral exchanges.
The call for projects is published each year during the summer with a deadline in early October. Successfull proposals are created for a period of three years and are awarded a grant from Inria in the range of 10 000 – 13 000€ /year.

In 2013, Inria launched the “International Chairs” program in order to offer to international prestigious researchers the possibility of long visits (twelve months along five years) in Inria Project Teams. You may visit the Inria International Chairs webpage to know more, including application conditions.

The post-doctoral student integrates a research team, allowing him/her to take advantage of the close relations between Inria and international and industrial partner institutions while deepening his/her knowledge. For more informations.

EMBASSY PROGRAMS
French Embassy in Canada offer various Call for Projects to support collaborations between Canada and France: https://francecanadaculture.org/highereducation/
Mobility Program Morou-Strickland
The Mourou-Strickland Mobility Program is an initiative designed by the French Embassy in Canada. Its aim is to foster research collaboration between France and Canada and encourage the discovery of specific research and innovation ecosystems in both countries.
The program is open to:
- Researchers from Canada who are interested in traveling to France to explore the French ecosystem.
- Researchers from France who are interested in traveling to Canada to explore the Canadian ecosystem.
The Mourou-Strickland Mobility Program provides seed grant to encourage new cross-border bilateral cooperation and knowledge exchange. It could leverage new projects with the perspective of setting up a consortium to apply to the Horizon Europe program, which is now accessible to researchers from Canada.
France-Canada Research Fund
The France Canada Research Fund is a major instrument of Franco-Canadian scientific cooperation, created in 2000 through an agreement between the French Embassy in Canada and a consortium of 23 Canadian universities.
In twenty years, the FCRF has financed over 400 collaborative research projects. The FCRF is currently made up of 23 member universities and supports around 20 new projects each year. These projects are led by French and Canadian teams collaborating for the first time.
Laureates are awarded start-up grants of CA$8,000 to $15,000 to fund research and student mobility between the two countries.
Samuel de Champlain Program (with Québec)
The Samuel-De Champlain program, funded under the Conseil franco-québécois de coopération universitaire (CFQCU), has two components: a “training” component and a “research” component, open to all themes, while specifying, for part of the call for projects, priority themes in line with the priorities of the Quebec and French governments.
The research component supports researchers in emerging and structuring long-term collaborations. The maximum grant for each project is €20,000 for the French part and $30,000 for the Quebec part, for a two-year period.
