

{"id":106,"date":"2020-02-05T14:36:10","date_gmt":"2020-02-05T13:36:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/project.inria.fr\/nitro\/?page_id=106"},"modified":"2020-02-14T16:00:36","modified_gmt":"2020-02-14T15:00:36","slug":"cybathlon","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/project.inria.fr\/nitro\/cybathlon\/","title":{"rendered":"Cybathlon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<h1>Overview<\/h1>\n<p><strong>Launched in 2013<\/strong> by Robert Riener, Full Professor of Sensorimotor Systems in the Department of Health Sciences and Technology at ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich).<\/p>\n<p><strong>The first championship<\/strong> organised by ETH Zurich took place in 2016, and the next one will be held in May 2020!<\/p>\n<h1>Concept and objectives<\/h1>\n<p><strong>Issue<\/strong>: Assistive technologies can make daily life easier for people with disabilities, but do these devices really meet the needs of their users?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assistive systems: Technologies often lack practical functionality.<\/li>\n<li>New technologies may not be used or even accepted.<\/li>\n<li>In public places, barriers often make the use of assistive technologies cumbersome or even impossible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The objectives of Cybathlon are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To serve as a platform to advance research on these technologies for everyday use and to promote dialogue with the public.<\/li>\n<li>To serve as a platform for exchange between people with disabilities, technology developers and the general public.<\/li>\n<li>Inform and raise awareness of the challenges faced by people with disabilities on a daily basis<\/li>\n<li>Promote the development and implementation of assistive technologies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Courses and disciplines<\/h1>\n<p>The racing frame is designed to test the ability of a technology to help its user in his daily tasks (e.g. climbing stairs, opening doors, &#8230;). In each discipline, several drivers compete simultaneously. Tasks and rules are defined in detail for each discipline. The most important thing is that the pilots perform the tasks correctly and safely.<\/p>\n<h3>The 6 disciplines of Cybathlon<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) Stroke<\/li>\n<li>Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) Bike Race<\/li>\n<li>Stroke of motorized arm prostheses<\/li>\n<li>Motorized leg prosthesis stroke<\/li>\n<li>Motorized exoskeleton race<\/li>\n<li>Motorized wheelchair racing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Cybathlon 2016, some figures<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>66 drivers in 56 teams from 25 nations in the 6 disciplines.<\/li>\n<li>4,600 visitors (full arena), including 60 wheelchair users.
