Abstract:
\nGitHub has in recent years become the world\u2019s largest
\ncollection of open source software, with around 9
\nmillion users and 17 million public repositories.
\nThese numbers make GitHub an invaluable source of
\ndata for large-scale research in empirical software engineering.
\nIn this talk, we describe recent research conducted
\nin our group, using GitHub data. For example,
\nwe are using GitHub to understand and predict the
\npopularity of open source projects, to understand
\nthe motivations behind refactoring, to assess the
\nconcentration of knowledge in software teams, and
\nto study the evolution of software APIs.<\/p>\n
Bio:<\/p>\n
Marco Tulio Valente received his PhD degree in Computer Science
\nfrom the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil (2002),
\nwhere he is an assistant professor in the Computer Science Department,
\nsince 2010. His research interests include software architecture
\nand modularity, software maintenance and evolution, and
\nsoftware quality analysis. He is a \u201cResearcher I-D\u201d of the Brazilian
\nNational Research Council (CNPq). He also holds a \u201cResearcher
\nfrom Minas Gerais State\u201d scholarship, from FAPEMIG. Currently,
\nhe heads the Applied Software Engineering Research Group
