It is co-organized by Inria, Stanford University, and UC Berkeley in partnership with CITRIS and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. BIS\u20192013 is part of the joint research program Inria@SiliconValley. The objectives of this workshop are to present the current state of scientific collaborations and to work on proposals for future ambitious joint projects. Such a goal shall in particular drive our research on digital cities, which must foster both environmental and social sustainability. Indeed, the former has been on the ICT research agenda for quite some time and is key to facing the climate change challenges. As for the latter, although equally important, it is often neglected, partly due to the fact that it cannot be legislated and is thus hard to achieve.
