In this first edition, we have chosen the BBC old school dataset and offer an aesthetic and a technical challenge that can be done with this dataset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Materials<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/rd\/projects\/old-school-dataset\">BBC Old School dataset<\/a> \u2013 you\u2019ll need to arrange access to this data in order to enter the competition.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/project.inria.fr\/wicedxcinemotions2023\/files\/2023\/06\/WICED-2022-Old-School-Launch-Dataset-WICED-2023-edition.pptx\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/project.inria.fr\/wicedxcinemotions2023\/files\/2023\/06\/WICED-2022-Old-School-Launch-Dataset-WICED-2023-edition.pptx\">A description of the dataset <\/a>presented at WICED 2022 and 2023 (this is a summary \u2013 full details of the dataset contents are provided within the dataset itself).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There are no restrictions on the code, tools or approach used in creating the entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Guidelines\/Tips<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Start with the example timeline to work with the pre-selected takes \u2013 this is provided as an industry-standard EDL file in the dataset (but it\u2019s very human-readable).<\/li><li>A pre-mixed audio track is also provided in the dataset.<\/li><li>You can begin with the proxy (lower resolution) video footage if the full-resolution material is inconvenient to download\/process<\/li><li>An example human edit based on the example timeline is also provided.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Judging<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two entry types :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Aesthetic: trying to obtain the best edit possible<\/li><li>Technical: exploring some aspect of the dataset without necessarily generating a full edit, such as generating interesting framings<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Calendar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Competition start: 1st July 2023<\/li><li>Online information sessions:<ul><li> 4 September 2023 15:00 BST \u2014 contact us for connection details<\/li><li>Follow up sessions in October \u2013 December 2023 to be announced<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Competition ends: <s>15 February 2024<\/s> 29 February 2024 (extended)<\/li><li>Announcement of results: 24 March 2024<\/li><li>Presentation event: WICED 2024 (22 April 2024)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Submission<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entries to the competition should be submitted as a regular workshop submission (see <a href=\"https:\/\/project.inria.fr\/wiced2024\/call-for-papers\/\">Call for Papers<\/a>).
