Microlocal analysis as a tool to design computational methods for the simulation of waves

Microlocal analysis is usually considered as a powerful tool for the mathematical analysis of partial differential equations. However, and probably less common, this also provides a very interesting tool to develop some original and efficient numerical methods when one wants to compute the solution to PDEs. In particular, important applications concern the numerical simulation of waves in the frequency and time domains. A few chosen examples will be explained to show the wide range of applications that can be expected.
