Where Life Meets Flow: Decoding Nature’s Devices through Immersed Boundary CFD
Fluid motion underlies nearly every aspect of life, from blood transport in the heart to propulsion in flying and swimming animals. These flows arise from complex interactions among fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, and physiology that have long been difficult to resolve computationally. Recent advances in high-fidelity sharp-interface immersed boundary CFD, now enable first-principles simulations of moving and deforming biological systems with unprecedented realism. This talk will highlight how these simulations are revealing the fluid-dynamic principles underlying nature’s most sophisticated machines and inspiring new advances in bio-inspired propulsion, soft robotics, and cardiovascular engineering.
