Talk at Inria’s 1/2h de science

Musical Notation Processing

a 30 min presentation of the Exploratory Action Codex at Inria Paris center, with a focus on 2 major activities.

abstract: Sheet music has been an essential vector in Western musical practice for nearly 1000 years, for collaboration between musicians, teaching, and the preservation of cultural heritage. Their digital counterpart is no less important in the contemporary musical world, as well as in the field of Digital Humanities, for example for corpus studies in computational musicology and the development of digital libraries such as Gallica at the BnF.
In the Codex exploratory action, we develop methods and tools for the processing of music written in digital formats and the management of sheet music databases.
Through the emblematic problem of musical transcription, we will see in this presentation some examples of difficulties, specific models and techniques used and the results obtained.
