Sequans Communications:  SEQUANS has two families of product: “StreamRich” chipset for high-end devices, implementing the most recent LTE releases towards high data rates and rich features. The second product family, “StreamLite”, targets low-end devices, typically, offering LTE connectivity at low price, without compromising the quality of the modem. Sequans has for instance developed a Cat-1 chipset and module and will soon propose an optimized NB-IoT solution.
EPHYL will be the opportunity to Sequans to anticipate the next generation of solution in this StreamLite solution family. Concretely, the benchmarking of several waveforms candidates for cellular IoT will contribute to enrich the know-how of Sequans in the domain as well to pre-develop receiver and transmitter algorithms. Moreover, the study from WP3 on system performance and radio resource management could help the company to better understand what could be the problematic of the operators when deploying such technology. At last, the WP4 results may help Sequans to touch concrete aspects of the implementation of the waveform candidates, thus lowering the time to market of future products.
CEA-LETI, Grenoble:  CEA-Leti is a research centre renowned for its high-quality research activities in the field of electronics and information technology. It mainly aims at helping companies increase their competitiveness through technological innovation and transfer of its technical know-how. EPHYL will contribute to increase the know-how of the Wireless Technology Department on low power wide area systems. The gained knowledge will be used to identify new research challenges for upcoming research activities. Some specific results may be patented and afterwards published in relevant major international conferences (IEEE and ACM). The main objective of CEA-Leti will then be to make a technology transfer covered by a license, entitling partners to draw on CEA-Leti know-how and patents in this field.
ISEP, Paris:  ISEP is a graduate engineering school that trains engineers and researchers to meet the industry requirements. Motivated by the massive growth of the IoT market, ISEP will propose a dedicated track in Internet of Things starting from September 2016. The work done in EPHYL will contribute to consolidate this track and to enrich the academic advanced courses contents. The project will also host PhD student activities and will be the best opportunity for the ISEP to build an expertise in the IoT area and to collaborate with high-qualified industrials and academic national partnerships.
INRIA, INSA Lyon:  As an academic partner, Inria does not plan for a direct commercial exploitation of the project results stemming from the EPHYL. However, the fact that the partners will develop some of their work on GNU radio with a possible evaluation on FIT-CorteXlab (EquipEx FIT) will contribute to give to FIT-CorteXlab a national and international visibility. A light version of the common prototype will be available to external partners to run and experiment FIT-CorteXlab. The topic of the project suits perfectly with the features of FIT-CorteXlab and the collaboration will provide very good insights about it. We expect also to maintain our strong collaboration with CEA Leti as well as developing new interactions with the other partners.
Centrale-Supelec:  Being an academic institution “Grande Ecole”, does not plan for a direct commercial exploitation of the project results stemming from the EPHYL. Next, from CentraleSupélec’s participation in the EPHYL project, our staff will become more knowledgeable in a variety of technologies and systems such as LPWA, IoT,, etc. Clearly, this will facilitate the establishment of new strategic partnerships with companies (equipment manufacturers, SMEs, etc.), both at the national and international levels. These strategic alliances facilitate a bidirectional exchange of information on R&D trends and technological needs, access to labs and R&D equipment in favourable conditions, temporary hosting of R&D personnel, etc. Very often, today’s strategic partnerships constitute the seed for tomorrow’s industrial contracts which EPHYL is expected to stimulate, as well.
