Sexism, diversity, parity…. The construction of media representations: a societal and ethical challenge ?

Are the media sexist? Is media content discriminatory? Do the media represent the society in all its diversity….? These are only few of the questions we could ask about media representation. The idea of this conference is to specifically understand how gender stereotypes can shape the day-to-day work of journalists. It represents an important societal issue because media discourse is never neutral.



Marie-Christine Lipani is an Associate Professor (HDR) in Information and Communication Sciences at the Bordeaux Aquitaine Institute of Journalism (IJBA), part of Bordeaux Montaigne University. She is also in charge of equality and anti-discrimination at Bordeaux Montaigne University. Her research mainly focuses on women’s access to positions of power in the print media.
