Visit of Prof. Chao-Chen Wu and Prof. Hsian-Min Chen from October 11th to 18th, 2019.

2019/10/11-18

On October 14th,  Dr. Francois arranged a Kick-off meeting for discussing the protocols for Autism project, he also invited Taiwanese research team to participate the meeting. Since the behavior of  Autism children were various, doctors and professionals hoped to apply the automatic-recognition techniques into the hospital environment.  By recording their behavior, they could easily quantify and track children’s situation.

During October 14th-18th, Taiwanese research team joined meetings and daily schedule in INRIA, including met people from nearby cooperation to introduce his research background in Osaka University, including data processing, historical news clustering, and facial recognition for Buddha statue in Yakushi-ji (薬師寺).

Yakushi-ji (薬師寺) is one of the most famous imperial and ancient Buddhist temples in Japan, that was once one of the Seven Great Temples of Nanto, located in Nara. The temple is the headquarters of the Hossō school of Japanese Buddhism. Yakushi-ji is one of the sites that are collectively inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, under the name of “Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara.”

The engineer of INRIA Star, Sebastian, introduced his latest progress about elder people caring system. The system could detect human movement in the defined area and combine with several monitors or screens to track the real-time situation. Besides, the human body recognition was automatic detected by artificial model. In the meeting, Taiwanese research team provided some advice for the algorithms and programming to make this system more suitable in Taiwan.

Dr. Francois introduced INRIA Star’s research works and collaboration projects for the three France medical students, including people tracking project and Toyota Smart Home, etc.

A PhD student of INRIA Star team from Taiwan reported his newly submitted journal paper to all team members. His research tried to quantify the Epilepsy behavior of patients based on video processing techniques. Many members provided their opinions for future direction and goal.

The engineer of INRIA Star, Rachid, demonstrated the system designed with company for Alzheimer’s disease. Because Alzheimer is a chronic disease, and patients require regular medical care in a hospital from time to time, a remote medical system would help to reduce the time and effort to visit the hospital. The system was based on cloud structure to provide doctors and patients for the real-time interaction. Additionally, Taiwanese research team discussed the facial expression research progress with Dr. Antisa to look for future research cooperation. Finally, Dr. Francois invited James from the industrial field having dinner with Taiwanese team member. James shared his positive cooperating experience with Taiwan companies and also discussed for the future cooperation.

Visit of the SafEE French member, Dr.Francois Bremond, to Taipei from September 16th to 22th, 2019.

2019/9/16-2019/9/22

Dr. Francois visited “Taiwan Mouse Clinic (TMC) (http://tmc.sinica.edu.tw/index.html)” guiding by Dr. Zhi-Cheng Chen from Academia Sinica. The Taiwan Mouse Clinic, as one of the core facilities funded by the National Research Program for Biopharmaceuticals (NRPB) of the National Science Council (NSC) in Taiwan, aims to promote the utilization of mice as a model to study human diseases by providing state-of-the-art mouse phenotyping services to biomedical researchers in Taiwan.

Together they discussed the potential for applying Object-tracking and Facial Expression Recognition (FER) algorithms implemented in mouse experiments and future cooperation.

Dr. Francois also joined AVSS 2019(http://avss2019.org/) held by National Taipei University during Sept. 18th-21th. AVSS (The 16th IEEE International Conference Advanced Video and Signal-based Surveillance) was a premier international conference in the field of video and signal-based surveillance. The goal of the conference was to provide a game-changing and cross-disciplinary forum that brought together experts from academia, industry, and government to advance the frontiers of theories, methods, systems, and applications.

Before Dr. Francois left Taiwan, Prof. Wu toured him and a former Inria visited PhD student, Carlos, with the assistant Yan-Zhen Li to Sanxia Old Street (三峽老街) and Full Moon Waterfall (Manyue Waterfall), which lies in Sanxia’s Manyueyuan National Forest Recreation Area in New Taipei. This place is famous for long and historical immigration culture, such as Hakka culture, with beautiful scenery.

2018/12/11-12/15

During 11th to 15th of Dec 2018, Prof. Chao-Chen Wu and Prof. Hsian-Min Chen visited Inria and Nice hospital. Also, they joint organization of the ‘ Third IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, Applications and Systems (IPAS 2018)’  (http://ipas.ieee.tn/) at Sophia Antipolis on 12th to 14th of Dec 2018. A city tour was also held by IPAS 2018 as pictures showed below.

2018/12/14

Since IPAS 2018 was closed at noon at 14th of Dec, Dr. Francois Bremond arranged a visit for the two professors to Memory Resource and Research Centre (CMRR) for clinical system after the conference.  On account of the clinical system have already entered the implementation level, Dr. Monique Thonnat and Dr. Auriane Gros guided Prof. Chao-Chen Wu and Prof. Hsian-Min Chen to see their latest research and system.
