Work-program

We have shown, in previous work, that it is possible to:

– equip the home of frail elderly people and the institutionalized home of subjects with Alzheimer’s disease, with a technological system designed to recognize events (fall, sleep disorders, ambulation, goal-oriented actions) and proposals for non-medicinal preventive and therapeutic actions (connected aroma diffuser, customizable music therapy). This system, at home, has most often been perceived as safe rather than intrusive by those who have used the device.

– familiarize the elderly naive with the use of digital supports (tablets, smartphones) for the realization of cognitive tasks. The use of ICTs by the elderly can be beneficial and should not be an obstacle.

We propose to continue the work already initiated by proposing a technological platform, specifically dedicated to the elderly subjects at home in a situation of loss of autonomy, which allows the prolonged stay in the home of the person, avoiding or delaying institutionalization:

– useable whatever the living environment of the person (urban or rural) and the quality of the pre-existing social and family environment (isolated person, surrounded person).

– associated with a significant decrease in the individual and societal financial cost of taking care of dependency (in comparison with the cost of taking care in an institution)

– ensuring both the maintenance of autonomy at home and the improvement of the quality of life, and involving local life actors (local doctor, neighborhood traders, neighbors). Our device will integrate the automation of the following aspects

For maintaining autonomy at home:

WP1 / screening and monitoring of health-related parameters: monitoring of severe acute events (falling, loss of consciousness, cardiac event) with teletransmission to the healthcare professional, detection of mild and progressive changes indicating a change in the state health.

WP2 / assistance with administrative management: implementation of a personalized and automated management of the financial resources and the tax constraints of the person, without justifying the use of a judicial protection of property (curatorship, guardianship)

WP3 / food assistance: monitoring of food intake, the possibility of mobilizing local neighborhood resources for access to a regular and balanced diet

For improving the quality of life:

WP4 / valorisation of local participatory and collaborative assistance: involvement of local traders, neighbors

WP5 / fostering interactions and maintaining the social bond of proximity

The planned activity consists in validating technological system by integrating the most recent technologies such as Deep Learning and testing new types of sensors such as sleep sensor using hyper-spectral imaging.
