Tech Summit Petrópolis 2026

Inria International Chair Fabio Porto, Patrick Valduriez, and researchers from LNCC participated in Tech Summit Petrópolis 2026, held on 13–15 August and organized by Serratec in Petrópolis, Brazil. In the photo, PhD students Gabriela Moraes Botaro and Sergio Luque Mamani, from Fabio’s team, can be seen alongside the mascot of the summit, an impressive robodog able to do all kinds of tricks.

The conference provided great technical and strategic discussions on open, intelligent and collaborative ecosystems. It brought together companies, government bodies, universities, startups, investors, and tech leaders from the region to accelerate urban solutions, strengthen local communities, and foster meaningful connections between knowledge, business, and impact.

Fabio Porto participated in the panel discussion “From Strategy to Implementation: Public Policies for Artificial Intelligence”, alongside Larissa Ormay (MCTI), Feu Braga (State Secretary for Digital Transformation of Rio de Janeiro), and Alexandre Macedo (Serratec). During the panel, he discussed issues related to Brazil’s digital sovereignty, including the use of an open Japanese LLM currently being adapted to Portuguese. He also highlighted the outstanding performance of Team Brazil at the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), where the four students of Team Brasil obtained the AI-native robotics award, 1 silver medal, 2 bronze medals, and 1 honorable mention.
