PROMPT Talk was organized by BI0S Center at Unicamp with Pedro Rodrigues (INRIA team STATIFY, Grenoble, France) as speaker, on October 23, 2024
Simulation-Based Inference (SBI) has the potential to revolutionize experimental sciences by allowing the inversion of complex and non-linear computational models, such as those found in physics, biology or neuroscience. The approach is based on Bayesian statistics and takes advantage of advances in deep generative models to approximate posterior distributions of parameters. However, assessing the reliability of these approximations is still a challenge, especially to identify situations in which the approximations are robust or need to be refined.
In this talk, Pedro Rodrigues has presented recent advances in SBI, including the L-C2ST method, a technique for local evaluation of posterior estimators that does not require access to the true distribution. Numerical experiments with applications in neuroscience will be discussed, using the Jansen-Rit neural mass model.
About the speaker
Pedro Rodrigues is a researcher at INRIA in Grenoble, France in Inria Team STATIFY. His research focuses on applications of generative models to inverse problems in computational neuroscience. He holds a PhD from GIPSA-lab in Grenoble and has experience in brain-machine interfaces, statistics and machine learning.
