VLDB is a key international annual forum for data management and database researchers, vendors, practitioners, application developers, and users. It takes the format of research talks, tutorials, demonstrations, and workshops.

In August 2018, its 44th edition was held in Rio de Janeiro, covering issues in data management, database and information system research, since they are the technological cornerstones of the emerging applications of the 21st century. The event was partially supported by three LNCC researchers including Fabio Porto, Adolfo Simoes and Artur Ziviani. Besides, Inria was represented by the intervention of two researchers, Dr. Luc Bouganim (Very Large Data Bases) and Dr. Ioana Manolescu (Big Data Analitics). Dr. Patrick Valduriez was also present as a member of the advisory board and the sponsoring committee chair.

The forum was also punctuated by moments of friendly exchanges such as the banquet or cocktail, which took place near the beautiful beaches of Barra da Tijuca.
