About the Program

Collaborations between Inria project-teams and American Universities have been developing for many years, thus providing a strong basis for addressing scientific, economic and societal challenges on international priorities, in the context of win-win partnerships.

Since 2011, Inria runs Inria@SiliconValley” an active scientific joint program with California universities, that initially started with UC Berkeley and Stanford University, and has now expanded to all California partners .

The program :

  • Strengthens and structures existing collaborations between Inria research teams and California universities
  • Fosters the creation of research and innovation collaborative projects addressing scientific challenges of the digital society.
  • Provides networking opportunities among which the organization of scientific events

Since 2018, the program supports joint research projects on the following topics:

  • Digital Sciences & Technologies for Smart & Connected Communities
  • Digital Sciences & Technologies for Health

From 2010 to 2018, an Inria senior researcher was in charge of supervising and animating the program and of fostering new collaborative projects:

• Malik Ghallab (2010- 2011)
• Christine Morin (2011-2013)
• Valérie Issarny (2013-2018)

This program supports joint research projects called associate teams, each of them involving a research group from a California university and one from an Inria research center. In the framework of these associate teams, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and visiting scholars are co-funded by Inria and the collaborating California research groups.
