The COP21 Solutions exhibition, that took place from 4 to 10 December 2015, attracted 42,000 visitors under the glass dome of the Grand Palais in Paris, to learn about real, accessible solutions for the development of a post-carbon world. Inria was one of the fifteen research organisations exhibiting together for the first time in a space showcasing climate change issues and researchers’ commitment to action. Around twenty Inria researchers from the teams LEMON, STEEP, EVA,ANGE, CLIME, BIOCORE, RITS, CARDAMOM, SAGE, AIRSEA, TOSCA presented their research results.

Fifteen research organisations were exhibiting in the 200sqm pavilion :

  • ANR (French National Research Agency)
  • BRGM (National institution for Earth Science applications in the management of surface and subsurface resources and risks)
  • CEA (Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission)
  • CIRAD (Agricultural Research for development)
  • CNES (Shaping and implementing space policy Agency)
  • CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research)
  • IFPEN (New Energies)
  • IFREMER (French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea)
  • INERIS (National competence centre for Industrial Safety and Environmental Protection)
  • INRA (National Institute for Agricultural Research)
  • Inria (French National Institute for computer science and applied mathematics)
  • INSERM (French National Institute of Health and Medical Research)
  • IRD (Research Institute for development)
  • IRSTEA (National Research Institute of Science and Technology for Environment and Agriculture)
  • MNHN (National Natural History Museum).

The exhibition aimed to provide a consistent and “collaborative” image of French research, while leaving each organisation free to present their specific initiatives. Showcasing the work of researchers and the SOLUTIONS they are developing, setting up a space in which to explore the issues, the challenges and the necessity of reversing or adapting to climate change.

Inria was exhibiting in the “Lifestyles” and “Our Planet” displays and was also present (display and tablets) in the “Health and well-being” section.

Digital science provides support for energy transition, helping to address the issues of primordial concern to society. It is an essential component in assessing climate issues, imagining climate change scenarios and aiding decision-making processes.
