The ANR partners with the NSF (National Science Foundation) in the US to fund French research teams selected by both countries in the framework of the call for projects “PIRE” (Partnerships for International Research and Education) of the NSF. The ANR should launch a call for projects dedicated to this collaboration in late July.

The PIRE multidisciplinary program aims to support US researchers’involvment in collaborations on a global scale which enables the promotion of both research and education through scientific excellence.
The call for project “PIRE” as described in the NSF Solicitation 16-571 is conducted in two stages:
- Deadline for the submission of pre-proposals: 14 September 2016
- Deadline for the submission of detailed proposals: April 24, 2017
The call for the ANR projects detailing the objectives and modalities of this collaboration is being prepared, and its publication is scheduled for late July 2016.
Eligibility for French partners:
- Only projects involving a French-American binational collaboration are eligible for the call for projects “PIRE –ANR”. Multinational proposals with French-US partners and partners from other countries will not be supported by ANR.
- Only French partners involved in PIRE projects that were selected during the first stage of the NSF will be eligible to joint call of ANR and NSF.
The domains elegible for the ANR-NFS co-funding are:
- Materials, Physics, Chemistry
- Engineering
- Energy
- Nanotechnologies and ICT (including CyberPhysical Systems)
The maximum duration of a project is 5 years on NSF side, and 4 years on ANR side. Each agency will finance the expenses of the teams of its country by their own rules.
Please note: NSF reserves the right to fund projects even without the support of the ANR.
