Inria researcher is part of a new large-scale collaboration between the United States, France and Canada in the field of artificial intelligence and neurosciences.
The project of “International network for brain-inspired computation” led by the University of Washington Computational Neuroscience Center (CNC) received a funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) through the program “Accelerating Research through International Network-to-Network collaboration” (AccelNet). The project aims at accelerating research at the interface between neuroscience and artificial intelligence, in order to deepen the comprehension of cerebral algorithms and cellular mechanism. It will enable new tracks and approaches in artificial intelligence (AI) and algorithmics.
The project will involve an international network of universities and industrial partners. It includes the main universities and industrial research centers in the Pacific Northwest of the USA (University of Washington, University of Oregon,Allen Institute), but also research centers and universites in Canada (laboratory UNIQUE linked to MILA and University of Montréal and University of British Columbia) and Paris (Institut de neurosciences Paris Saclay, ENS and INRIA).
Inria is represented by the researcher Gaël Varoquaux from the Project-team PARIETAL.
This “network of networks” will contribute to training students with the ability to link AI and neuroscience, while its international nature will provide opportunities for an international research experience for them.
