The 6th annual Inria@SiliconValley workshop, BIS’2016, took place on June 8-10th, 2016 in Paris.
The workshop gathered more than 100 participants over the three-day event organized around keynote speeches, working sessions and an open conference.
On day one, 3 ongoing collaborations within Inria@SiliconValley were featured through keynotes:
- Carlos Canuda de Witt, CNRS, Inria NeCS and COMFORT Associate team, on
- DALHIS Associate team, on , Inria International Chair and
- , Université de Lorraine, Inria ORPAILLEUR team and SNOWFLAKE Associate team, on
The first day concluded with an Inria@SiliconValley community meeting; the participants exchanged about the program and made suggestions for BIS’2017, among which “flash presentations” and/or poster displays of the associate teams as an overview of the on-going collaborations in order to foster interactions between the teams.
The working sessions brought together researchers around 3 themes:
- Computation and data analysis with an overview over Aerospace applications: Gathering a dozen of participants, this session, organized around presentations and discussions, focused on the current research activities on the atmospheric reentry of space vehicles and on the different activities performed in the Associated Teams addressing computation and data analysis approaches : transportation and trafic management, optimization with algebraic methods and hierarchical algorithms for computational linear algebra.
- Digital sciences and technologies for smart cities: From the networking infrastructure to public engagement: Building on the success of the two previous editions of the Smart City working session held at BIS, the session was the opportunity to exchange about ongoing as well as potential future projects and collaborations on the theme. The session also featured keynotes about relevant initiatives and experiment within cities, and in particular Paris.
For the 2016 edition, Inria@SiliconValley partnered with the Inria Paris Research Center to organize an international open Conference on “Digital Sciences & Technologies for Health” that took place in the framework of the Futur en Seine Innovation Festival.
Over 70 participants among which researchers and representatives of public organizations, SMEs and start-ups, attended the one-day conference.
The conference featured 3 keynotes (followed by Q&As) on:
- “Population precision medicine research in digital economy” by Nick Anderson from UC Davis.
- “From detection to forecasting: Big Data and models in Epidemiology – The Example of Dengue in Rio de Janeiro” by Pierre Alexandre Bliman from Inria & FGV.
- “Biomechanics and digital sciences to prevent risks of musculoskeletal disorders in elite sports practice” by Benoit Bideau from Univ. Rennes 2.
In addition, two panels, each organized around 6 experts, fostered discussions and debates on “Computational methods for neurosciences & medical imaging” and on “Internet of Things and quantified self“. The panels were respectively chaired by Bertrand Thirion and Valerie Issarny from Inria.
